Craft Room Organization Using Homemade Affordable Storage

Spread the love

Craft room organization can seem like a daunting task.  There are so many little supplies and tools that need to be organized and stored.  Not only is it time consuming but it can be expensive if you have to buy a storage unit for all the different types of items that you have.

You may find it more motivating to get organized if you could have some affordable storage and lots of it.  All it takes is a little creativity and you can have a great storage unit that will hold all of your supplies.

I had one final area of my craft room to organize and I decided to do it almost completely with homemade storage caddies.  The other parts of my craft room hold the majority of my supplies and it is quite functional.  However, I had a lot of little odds and ends that needed to be sorted and displayed where I could find them easily.

After shopping around for small storage units, I quickly decided I needed to come up with another alternative.  It was going to be way to pricey for everything that I wanted.  I loved the design of some of the tool caddies, with the many dividers to separate items out, but I had a lot of little items.  That is when I decided to make my own tool caddies out of six pack containers.  I ended up making four of these to hold most of the small items.

I had also previously made a trinket box which worked perfectly for storing dvd cases that I like to use for crafts.   Each of these containers has a little different look which adds some interest to my craft room.  I did keep the colors all pretty neutral so they would blend though.  I also decorated a soup can to hold paint brushes.  It’s a wonder what a little paint and raffia can do!

The rest of my storage unit is made up of miscellaneous baskets that I had laying around along with a birch pot which blends in nicely with some of my birch supplies.

Since I refurbished an old bookcase to store all of the caddies and baskets on, I didn’t spend a dime on storage.  Actually, the one thing I did buy was the vintage trunk on top of the bookcase which is full of antique buttons!  This was something I found after starting to organize the last part of my craft room and I thought it would be a great addition to both my supplies and storage.

Hopefully, this gives you some ideas to get started on organizing your own craft room.  Check out my tool caddy and trinket box tutorials for help on getting started.
